France set for lively EU presidency
June 30, 2008
In a sunny corner of Paris last week, a discreet ceremony marked the beginning of formalities for France’s turn at the EU wheel.
“”To the accompaniment of a little light classical music, in the company of ambassadors, members of the National Assembly and officials, the flags of the 27 member states were raised.
An elegant, understated event, it was in sharp contrast with the rowdy joy in Dublin three weeks ago, when ‘No’ campaigners greeted the result of the vote on the Treaty of Lisbon.
But make no mistake – Lisbon and Dublin hang heavy over Paris and France’s six-month stint in charge of the rotating EU presidency. “”

An Iranian man has been sentenced to death for spying for Israel, according to reports from Tehran.
Ali Ashtari was found guilty of sending “sensitive information on military, defence and research centres” to Iran’s arch foe in the region, reports say.
Israeli officials have been quoted as saying that Israel was not familiar with the case.
Iranian media say he was put on trial on Saturday. He confessed to charges against him and asked for clemency.
Mr Ashtari has 20 days to appeal against the verdict handed down by a revolutionary court.
Iraq seeking help to develop oil
June 30, 2008
Iraq has begun the process of opening up its oil industry to foreign investment in an effort to boost output of the country’s key income earner.
Iraq is seeking external help to boost output from six key oil fields and has attracted interest from leading US, Asian and European producers.
Oil production is currently at its highest since the 2003 invasion.
But political wrangling has so far prevented agreement over who should agree deals and how income is shared.

June 29, 2008
Anna Politkovskaya in my hands!
June 29, 2008
I just finish reading Putin’s Russia, this book has a great expectation and a big future ahead. It gives a future prediction on facts about gas blackmale with Europe. Some years ago, in 2005 another russian writer(Lilia Shevtsova and Antonina W. Bouis ) reveals on the market a book with the same title.
I would like to read the first one also, but like all other readers i went over the rewiews and the favorit as information and telling ,for me it was Anna’s version, writed on a much direct and journal style infromation, this book is not a story , but it’s a history and events report.
Very strange to publish a book in story type with 2 years before the second apears.Another diffrence is that Anna was murderd, and by the way i will give this weekend to you a article from RSF(rep.without borders) with the investigation of this case.
Maybe one of you got the first book, if it’s so, i would like to invite that person to share with us the info or opinion about the way of presentaion from the 2005 version of Putin’s Russia.
Till then i will try to buy it and read it.

The gathering was held in the ethnically divided city of Mitrovica.
Forty-five members were elected in May during Serbia’s general and municipal elections – a ballot which the UN and Kosovo’s government said was illegal.
Israel closes Gaza after rockets
June 25, 2008
Israel says it has closed its border crossings with Gaza in response to a Palestinian rocket attack on southern Israel that breached a ceasefire.
Israel said the attack was a “grave violation” of a truce in Gaza between Israel and the militant group Hamas.
Israel had been allowing more imports into Gaza since the truce was agreed, but officials said the crossings would now remain closed until further notice.
Hamas, which controls Gaza, said the closings violated the truce agreement.
The Erez pedestrian crossing remains open to diplomats and journalists.

An emergency summit of southern African leaders has called for Zimbabwe’s run-off presidential election to be postponed because of recent violence.
The governments of Swaziland, Tanzania and Angola said conditions would not permit a free and fair election.
Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai earlier urged intervention by the African Union and southern African states to end the crisis.
Britain is also to withdraw President Robert Mugabe’s honorary knighthood.
BBC-about us
June 25, 2008
